FAQ
-
Why would I need a personal trainer?Having a personal trainer by your side can help you reach your health goals, help you lose weight, work with you to get stronger, or help you with rehabilitation purposes. Having Mark as your trainer will increase your chance of staying consistent with your goals because he will follow up with you or remind you of the ideal solutions towards a healthier lifestyle.
-
What is Mobile Personal Training? It is what it is; Mark is mobile, he does not work out of a gym or studio, but he comes to you whether it is at your home or office. He will also provide all the equipment to help maximize your workout. The benefit of training in your home or office is that it creates a comfortable environment for your session.
-
Do you train your clients at a park?Unfortunately, No, but for good reasons. The city runs local parks, and they require fitness instructors to purchase a permit, and the price of your session with your trainer will increase. Another reason is that in case of an emergency at home, especially if you have a child or need to get dressed for an emergency quickly, you can drop what you are doing and easily rush into your home.
-
I never worked out before. Will this be difficult?Mark trains everyone with different fitness levels for a various range of goals. He will tailor to your needs, and he will push you based on your ability. Over time, you will soon realize that your body will feel more energized and mobile. Just staying consistent and patient will help you reach your goal.
-
Do I need my own equipment? Not necessary. As a mobile trainer, Mark will bring equipment such as a suspension trainer, adjustable dumbbells, exercise bands, and other accessories to help you move. If you have your own equipment, you can use your own along with Marks equipment as well.
-
How long are the sessions? It can last 30 minutes for one person training or 55 minutes for solo or buddy.
-
What is the cancellation policy?Sometimes things happen in life, and sometimes we can't control them. Mark understands that sometimes you have to do what you have to do, especially it is a family emergency. The standard cancellation policy in a commercial gym or other independent trainers must be notified 24 hours in advance. For Mark, he will ask 12 hours in advance.
-
What would cause me to get charged for my session if I canceled too late?It could be any non-life-threatening situation. For example is oversleeping, forgetting about the session, social events with friends or family, last-minute meetings (last-minute meetings can often be a nuisance, but if Mark noticed the pattern that you are using the same reason to get out of the session, you would get charged). You can avoid these situations by placing the workout session in your calendar or setting up a reminder. Let's connect if you are ready to work with Mark.
-
How can I schedule an appointment?Send an e-mail that is located on the homepage and we will be happy to find a time that works for you! **Venmo, cash, credit card, or debit card is required to reserve an appointment and you will be billed half the price you wish to receive to reserve a slot that works. After your appointment, you can choose another form of payment to pay the remaining balance.
-
Are walk-ins and same-day appointments available?Ideally, scheduling ahead of time works for both parties. Same-day appointments are sometimes available and it would hurt to reach out and see if Mark can take you in. However, Mark tends to be fully booked so we recommend booking in advance.
-
Will I get a full 60 minutes of massage when I book a 1-hour appointment?Yes, you receive the full amount of treatment time that you pay for. You are not charged for the intake and interview process, or the time it takes you to undress and dress before and after.
-
What if I am late arriving to my appointment? Please arrive on time for your appointment. The time for your appointment has been specially arranged for you. If you arrive late your session may be shortened in order to accommodate others whose appointments follow yours. We will do our best to provide you with the services you have booked, but we cannot guarantee full time if you arrive late. Full payment for your scheduled services will be expected.
-
What should I do if I need to cancel my appointment? If you need to reschedule your appointment, send a message. For late notice cancellations, your reservation fee will be used for that session and cannot be shifted to another date and time. We accept cash, check, credit card, or gift cards and certificates. A credit or debit card is required to reserve your appointment, however, you are not charged the remaining balance until after the appointment is completed. After your appointment, you can choose another form of payment.
-
Do you take insurance? What if I have a flexible spending account (FSA)?Although Mark does not accept insurance, many plans do cover massage therapy with a doctor's prescription and copies of receipts. We can also print out your visits when requested
-
Should I tip my massage therapist?Tipping is neither required nor expected, but of course, we appreciate the gesture! Mark does not depend on tips, but if you would like to leave a tip, simply add the gratuity via Venmo or cash. The best appreciation you can show is by referring your friends and family to Mark and letting them know about the amazing benefits of massage therapy!
-
Why does Mark charge the rates he charge? It goes back to the previous question. He decided on these rates so you don't have to worry about tipping as it is included in the price. He also observes the market rate and felt it was best to charge this much to make it fairer for those who are interested in massage.
-
Is it ok to exercise right after a massage?Yes, it's fine to exercise, but most people relax the rest of the day.
-
Do I need to shower before my massage? It is not necessary, but do we ask that you come to your appointments clean and free of fragranced personal care products.
-
Should I take off my underwear when I get a massage? This depends on you. Your comfort level is important to us. There will be some massage styles such as Esalen that will require you to be fully undressed but for Swedish, you have the option to leave your underwear on. Tight-fitting or bulky undergarments can sometimes get in the way of the massage, especially if your problem areas are the low-back, buttocks, or hips. Women usually remove their bras so no straps are in the way of back and shoulder massage. Licensed massage therapists must ensure that clients are always properly covered by a sheet or towel, genitals will never be exposed, and only the specific areas being massaged will be uncovered.
-
The pressure isn't deep enough, but I don't want to complain. What should I do?We would appreciate it if you communicate with Mark about your preferences and comfort. If anything needs to be adjusted, or if we are almost (but not quite) getting the right spot, just speak up and let Mark know right away! This is your massage and he wants to maximize your result. However, it is a myth that massage therapy needs to hurt in order to be effective. Some of the most effective techniques involve very light, gentle touch. Often, too much pressure can cause muscles to tighten further, and detract from the effectiveness of your treatment. Not all deep pressure is good, especially for those who have fibromyalgia which is not ideal to go deep.
-
Is it okay to talk to the massage therapist during my massage?Ideally, you will experience the greatest benefits from your session if you just allow yourself to become quiet and relaxed...which helps your massage therapist focus on providing a great massage! Definitely communicate with your therapist if you feel any pain or discomfort, if you have any concerns during your massage, or if there is anything your massage therapist can do to make you more comfortable. Some types of massage that work on deep layers of muscle and tissue, such as deep tissue or sports massage, will require more feedback to ensure that the pressure is not uncomfortable.
-
When is it not okay to get a massage? It is important for you to fully complete your Health History and keep your therapist up to date on your condition. Not all types of massage are appropriate for all conditions.
-
What should I do after I receive a massage?Relax and take your time hopping off the massage table. Allow your body to regroup itself. There is the time between appointments so that you never feel hurried to head out the door.
-
I woke up with a cold today. Should I come in?A massage will likely just make you feel worse. If you are sick, you may get your therapist sick and pass it on to other clients that day. So if you do get sick, I would encourage you not to come in and re-book. You can receive your $50 refund if you get a doctor's note stating you are sick.
-
What if I fall asleep, or drool during my massage? This happens often during a massage and Mark believes it is a good thing because you allowed yourself to let go of your thoughts and enjoy the moment. Just take it as a sign you are enjoying the relaxation!
-
Can I go to the bathroom during a session?Yes, If you need to go, you need to go, can't relax knowing you have to use the restroom
-
What if I forgot to shave? Not a concern
-
Should I tell my therapist if I have a rash or wart?Yes.
-
What if I have big breasts that get in the way or make it uncomfortable to lay face down?If you are uncomfortable laying face down, or in any other position, let your massage therapist know. Bolsters and towels can be used to make you as comfortable as possible. Sometimes, side-lying is an option.
-
Is it ok to use tobacco, marijuana, or drink alcohol before my massage? No, It is not good to be under the influence before you receive a massage. Receiving a massage while under the influence can intensify hangovers and makes you more drunk. Before you begin, you must not be drunk before you receive a massage
-
What if I’ve experienced trauma (or abuse) that is still triggered by touch? Should I let my massage therapist know?Yes, let your massage therapist know if you do not want to be touched in a specific area or in a certain way. You don’t have to give us any details, and you have the right to ask to take a break or end your massage altogether at any time, for any reason.
-
What if I get aroused or get an erection during my massage?Arousal is a natural response, so don’t feel guilty. However, understand that it was not your massage therapist’s intention. Our code of conduct requires us to make sure boundaries are clear. If there is a technique or motion (i.e. rocking the prone torso) that aroused you, it is okay to tell your therapist to stop that motion. Let's connect if you are ready to work with Mark.
